Congratulations to the readers and writers on this international blog.  We began this blog early in January 2009 in response to students who had taken part in the 2008 student blogging challenge. Since that time, we have had over 2500 visitors from 55 countries of the world.  We have written 35 posts – that is at least one every week and have received over 440 comments.

congratulations

Students from the northern hemisphere will be having their summer holidays soon so we will not be having any specific challenges set but if you want to write a post for this blog, just contact Miss W or a teacher on this blog and they will give you author/editor privileges to publish a post.

Students in the southern hemisphere will be hard at it still, so their classes might want to be in charge over the winter months.  Again, have your teacher contact Miss W. so your class can be in charge.

This week’s post is from the 2009 student blogging challenge number 11.

Here in Australia this week has three celebrations:  Tuesday 12 May is International Nurses Day, Friday 15 May is International Day of Families and throughout this week we are looking at people who volunteer for various jobs.  Your task is to research one of these special events and write a post about how one of these relates to you.

You might want to be a nurse in the future – tell us why and what you have to do to achieve that goal

You might want to write about an ideal family – what they do, how they work as a group, the good and the bad of being in an ideal family

Finally, you might want to tell your readers about a volunteering job you have or would like to do in the future.

Please make sure you link back to this blogpost and also makes some links to other websites for your readers to extend their knowledge on the topic you have chosen.

March 8th celebrates International Women’s Day.  Some school send female students to special celebrations like breakfasts or meetings to find out about women who have been important in our society. Here is a slideshare that was recommended from Twitter.

Is there another woman who you feel has made an impact on your life, the life of your community, country or the world?  Tell us about her and what effect she has made, in your opinion.

  • Como festeja o “Dia dos Namorados“;
  • O que costuma oferecer ao seu apaixonado;
  • Uma história engraçada sobre o “Dia dos Namorados“;
  • Ou até um presente inesquecível que tenha recebido.

Pode falar de tudo isto ou então só de uma das sugestões. O importante aqui é que se interesse pelo tema e que se divirta a fazê-lo.

St Valentine’s Day

Sweet Heart’s Day is a very special occasion that many people whish to live intensely all over the world. According to the tradition, you should offer a gift to the person you love. Some people even wait for this great day to declare his own love or to ask someone in marriage! This day celebrates love and harmony between two enamoured persons. This tradition goes back to the legendary times of christian martyrs, when bishop Valentine lived and became the patron of young couples in love.

To write your post or comment, you may, for instance,  talk about:

  • How do you, usually celebrate St. Valentine’s day.
  • What are you planning to offer to the person you love and why.
  • A funny story about St. Valentine’s Day.
  • Or even an unforgettable present you have been given and what made it so special.
You may write about all these suggestions or just about one of them: a post, just a comment or both, the main thing is that you enjoy developing the subject and have fun.
